Circular set design for TV show
–
Using circular materials – second-hand polycarbonate and pruned branches – the Amsterdam-based design studio created an Escher-like optical illusion as the set for Dutch TV program Zomergasten.
For six Sunday evenings, host Griet op de Beeck and her guests retreat to a corner of this mysterious place. Are they still on earth, or on their way to a better world? And what do they take with them from ours?
The fragments shown by the guests are subtly reflected in the semi-transparent cubes that make up the set, which gradually changes color as the evening progresses. The opening scene is bathed in white light; as the sun sets, the decor shifts to warm white, lilac, and red, eventually ending in deep dark blue.
The new season premiered on Sunday, July 27, with writer Özcan Akyol as the first guest. The other guests were Simon Kuper, Eva Crutzen, Uğur Ümit Üngör, Femke Halsema and Herman Koch.
